Actually, when you go north of the island, you will come across the Blue Caves which offer a very amazing seascape of natural arches which are carved by erosion and brilliant blue waters, thus the name itself says the blue caves. The caves natural arches are set in the deepest cavities which are most striking when visited in the morning due to the bright light.
The Smugglers Cove is also one of the must see places of the island. This cove is only accessible by see and is home of the shipwreck which depicts the romantic scene which are usually seen in postcards. The cove is so beautiful with white sand and a half buried shell of a steamer on it that usually struck the beach. Visiting this place is like visiting paradise.
Another place to visit when you are in the island is the place called Bochali. This place is overlooking the Zakynthos town and is situated on the slopes of a green hill that is surrounded by colorful gardens. Not only is this place romantic but it also contributed to the history of Greece. Why? This is because this is where the national poet of Greece, Dionysios Solomos had written the poem entitled The Hymn To Liberty which later on put into music, thus became the National Anthem of Greece. Also, it is in this place that you will find the Venetian Castle, The St George of Filikon Chapel, and the Nautical Museum.
Now, if you want to go to a spring where it has been said that therapeutic healing can be enjoyed, go to the Sulphur Springs at Xinthia. It has its own distinctive aroma and healing qualities that entice who ever visits the place with skin conditions and arthritis to come and take a bath in the soothing waters.
Moreover, if you are a nature lover, Askos Stone Park is the right place for you. With its woodland walks and nature trails that meander through the flora and the fauna, who would have thought paradise can t be found on earth? The park has been served as the sanctuary for wild hawks, birds, insects, amphibians, and on of the endangered species of Deer, the Platonia. It also contains numerous stone structures and stables that dated centuries ago. The park also welcomes educational tours and researches with good accommodations. The staff also provides guide books to ensure that tourist would never miss any single site even without their tourist guides. Aside from the guide books, they also provide a bottle of water to their tourist. Indeed they know how to treat their guest in a special way.
The island may be a small place to be explored, but mind you, the places are worth visiting for. Zakynthos will surely leave its mark to your memories that for sure you will keep visiting in your mind for the years to come.
